Ustaz Basheer Habibullah has been teaching at Quranbit for over 2 years. Having taught 50 students since he started, with 18 still consistently learning from him, Ustaz Basheer started off Quranbit after looking for a freelancing position as he had to care for his father who was suffering from Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

Quranbit (QB): How long have you been teaching at Quranbit?

Ustaz Basheer (UB): 2 years and 3 months

QB: How did you get the chance to teach at Quranbit?

UB: At that time, I was working full-time and had to stop work to become a caregiver to my father who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. At that time, I was looking for a flexible freelance or part-time position. My friend, Ustaz Mustaqim Salleh, then recommended that I register as a Quranbit asatizah. He told me that I would be able to teach flexibly and remotely from home or wherever I was.

QB: So far, are there any experiences that you cannot forget while teaching at Quranbit?

UB: This recent Ramadhan, I was tasked to become an imam (Arabic term for someone who leads) at Al-Ansar Mosque. When I entered the prayer hall to begin the night prayers (Qiyamulial), an uncle came to me and greeted me. He asked: "Do you recognise me? I learn the Quran with you at Quranbit." Truthfully, I had no recollection and could not recognise him because at Quranbit, we only hear their voices. However, it was a touching moment to finally be able to meet my student, Shah, who has the student code of A079.

QB: How many students have you taught so far? Are there students that you can never forget?

UB: Roughly, I estimate I could have taught at least 50 students. However, currently 18 have remained consistent.

There are many students that I remember because of their consistency in learning the Quran, an example being the uncle I was talking about in the previous question. Other students that I remember also include Reza, Abu Maher, Gailani, Affindy and many more. May Allah always bless them with deserved rewards because of their love and effort to improve their Quranic reading everyday.

QB: We understand that Ustaz has a few family members who are also teaching at Quranbit at some point in time. Can you share with us how did you family members also got involved? Are they still teaching at Quranbit?

UB: In 2020, Quranbit announced that they needed even more asatizah to teach Quranbit as there were many new students who had registered. Because of that, I promoted Quranbit to my family members including my sibling and wife. In the end, they also joined Quranbit as teachers. Till date, my older sister and wife are still teaching at Quranbit currently.

QB: What are your hopes for Quranbit in the near future?

UB:  I hope this programme will bring about a community who can read the Quran with full confidence, accurate tajweed and fasahah. I also hope the programme and the system of learning the Quran at Quranbit can be replicated all over the world and that the blessings of learning Al-Quran can be perpetuated in time to come.

As the renowned hadith goes:

خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه
The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.
